Week5.Narratives that Motivate Responses to memes

图片
I will analyze these two sets of memes this week. The first group is called "Texts From Hillary" and the second group is called "Binders full of women". Texts From Hillary During the 2012 election campaign. On April 4, 2012, a 2-panel image containing separate photographs of President Barack Obama and then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, both texting, were posted on a Tumblr blog. It imagines an exchange between the two, with Obama casually asking Clinton "whatchu doing?" to which she responds, "Running the world" There is a symmetrical juxtaposition between its verbal and visual content. Obama is relaxed, positioned as lying down while simultaneous reading and texting. Clinton has a solemn expression, is wearing Sunglasses, and appears to be reading messages on her PDA while working on a large stack of reading material. This meme produced an explosive reaction, and people actively recreated and spread this meme. I have t...

Overview United Airlines Passenger Removal refers to the controversial ejection of a passenger from a United Airlines flight, after the airline informed the plane that they would be randomly selecting ticket-holders to give up their seats. Background On April 9th, 2017, a video of police forcing a United Airlines passenger off of flight 3411 went viral on Facebook and Twitter. After boarding the plane at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, the airline announced that they had overbooked the flight and requested four ticket-holders give up their seats for four United employees. When no one volunteered, United randomly selected four passengers for removal. One of those passengers, David Dao, a doctor on his way to Kentucky, refused to give up his seat. Police forced him out of his seat and dragged him off the plane. Twitter user @JayseDavid, a passenger on the flight, posted a video of the removal to Twitter. In the post, he writes, "@United overbook #flight3411 a...

What You Think You Look Like vs. What You Actually Look Like I choose the meme called " What You Think You Look Like vs. What You Actually Look Like ", this is a two-pane image macro series illustrating the discrepancy between one's own self-image and outside perceptions of physical attractiveness.  This meme is very popular, and many people have created new memes according to their own ideas. And I found three very interesting memes. 1) What I think I look on windy days This image is a scene depicting a woman when she is blown by the wind. The scene we imagined is like a star. The picture is the famous singer Britney Spears. Her hair is blowing in the air and her expression is very charming. But the scenes in reality are not so beautiful. The women on the picture are distorted by the wind, and the whole person looks particularly funny. 2)What you look like when a guy sees you This meme is “what you look like when someone looks at you”. What you ...

1. What You Think You Look Like vs. What You Actually Look Like What You Think You Look Like vs. What You Actually Look Like is a two-pane image macro series illustrating the discrepancy between one's own self-image and outside perceptions of physical attractiveness. The first image typically approaches the subject’s self-idealized image while performing a certain act in a positive or attractive way, followed by a second image portraying the subject in an unflattering manner. Origin On July 20th, 2008, FARK user Control_this commented in a thread about the state of casinos in Illinois with a photograph of a young woman playing a slot machine followed by a photo of an older woman smoking while playing another gambling machine. The multi-perspective approach in visual jokes has been previously adapted by other survey template memes like “How People View Me After I Say I’m X” and “What I Watched vs. What I Expected vs. What I Got”. 2.
